11:29amWHOOOOOOOOP!
Sean and I at the celebratory dinnerThis afternoon while I was at work I got a phone call from my brother, Sean. He received a letter from the A&M Admissions office that basically said, "Congrats, you're now an Aggie."
He took the road less traveled in his route to College Station. He started out his freshman year at Texas State but didn't like it and transferred at the semester to Houston where he's spent the last 3 semesters. As my boy, Bobby Frost, said, "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference". It was a long and challenging road for Sean but after lots of hard work, persistence, help from kind souls, sleepless nights (mostly my Dad), and lots of praying he did it. I couldn't be more proud.
This fall will be his first semester and my last semester which is weird. The last time we were at the same school was when I was in 5th grade and he was in 1st. Funny how it all turns out, huh?
He's working at Aggieland Outfitters this summer so stop by and congratulate him. He deserves it.

12:01amRandom Baseball Tidbits
Yesterday morning Peter Gammons suffered from a brain aneurysm and immediately went into surgery. Peter is probably the greatest of his generation at what he does, even though he's got a slight Red Sox bias. I regularly read his ESPN.com column, until they put him in the "Insider" subscription package, and really can't watch Baseball Tonight if he's not on. I wish him a speedy and good recovery.
Oregon State did what many, including myself, didn't think they could (but I hoped they would). They beat North Carolina in the 3rd game of the championship series after an 8th inning defensive meltdown by the Tar Heels when their 2nd baseman threw a routine groundball past the firstbaseman allowing two runs to score.
Jonah Nickerson was named the Most Outstanding Player of the CWS after his back-to-back-to-back gutsy starts. He didn't get the win in the finale but he still threw a great ballgame.

1:29amVery Belated MLB Draft Synopsis
Ok, here it is....we had some internet problems this weekend but I think they're all cleared up now. I thought I'd take a look at Ags, Ag Recruits, Big 12 kids, OOC Opponents, and anyone else that sparked my interest (I went through the 7th round except on our recruits).
Ags
6th Round 191. Austin Creps CLECreps was more than likely going to be somewhere around a 3rd round pick until he blew out his knee. This is a tricky spot for Austin....he can come back to school for his senior year or go ahead and sign.
I'm fairly surprised that no one took even a mid or late round pick on Hart Hering or even Jason Meyer.
Ag Recruits
1st Round 7. Clayton Kershaw LAD 3rd Round 85. Zach Britton BAL 98. Matt Sulentic OAK 13th Round 388. Kevin Angelle TEX 24th Round 726. Nick Papasan MINThings went about like everyone figured they would. Kershaw signed with LA for $2.3 million, Britton signed with Baltimore, and Sulentic ended up signing with the A's. Angelle will end up going to San Jacinto so he can re-enter the draft next year. Thankfully, it would appear that Nick Papasan will be heading to Aggieland.
Kershaw marks the 3rd Aggie recruit in the last 4 years to be taken in the first round (Craig Whitaker in '03, Aaron Thompson in '05).
Big 12
1st Round 8. Drew Stubbs tu CIN 11. Max Scherzer MU ARI 29. Kyle McCulloch tu CHW Supplemental 1st Round 41. Joba Chamberlain NE NYY 3rd Round 80. Shelby Ford OS PIT 4th Round 123. Nathan Culp MU SDP 135. Tyler Reves tt CHW 151. Cory VanAllen BU WSH 163. Dustin Richardson tt BOS 176. Ryan Rohlinger OU SFG 215. Don Czyz KU FLA 226. Luke Gorsett NE STLYet another strong showing by the Big 12. I was somewhat surprised that Chamberlain fell to the second round and that Culp wasn't a little bit higher.
OOC
1st Round 1. Luke Hochevar Tennessee KCR 4. Brad Lincoln Houston PIT 10. Tim Lincecum Washington SFG 21. Ian Kennedy USC NYY 2nd Round 57. Josh Rodriguez Rice CLE 3rd Round 101. Adam Davis Florida CLE 103. Bryce Cox Rice BOS 4th Round 136. Eddie Degerman Rice STL 5th Round 149. Jeff Samardzija ND CHC 6th Round 180. Brian Jeroloman Florida TORWe played against lots of really, really good pitchers in the last couple of years. Including Big 12 opponents we faced seven 2006 1st rounders (Scherzer, McCulloch, Hochevar, Lincoln, Lincecum, Kennedy) and three more from the 2005 draft (Gordon, Clement, & Townsend). That's kind of cool.
Samardzija was taken in the 5th round but he dropped a lot simply because he's going to be a first round pick as a WR. He signed quickly for a boat-load of money (5 years and up to $7.25M).
Others
1st Round 3. Evan Longoria LBSU TBD 6. Andrew Miller UNC DET 13. Tyler Colvin Clemson CHC 18. Kyle Drabek WoodlandsHS PHI 3rd Round 65. Andrew Carpenter LBSU PHI 69. Wes Hodges GT CLE 4th Round 86. Dallas Buck OregonSt ARII got to see both Longoria and Carpenter play when I went to the Rice/LBSU game back in February.
