4:31pmMy Sports Bucket List
This is a topic that came up on TexAgs that I thought was pretty interesting. What is your Sports Bucket List? You know, a check list of things you'd like to do before you kick the bucket - sports edition.
After I put this together I ran it past Jennifer and when I was done she asked, "What would be on your regular bucket list?" I thought about it for a minute and told her, "Nope, that's it."
My list is pretty long, but most of it is legitimately possible....however to knock them all out it would require some time, a lot more vacation days from work, some serious planning and some major coin. But really, if I wanted I could knock one item off every year and just pray for a couple others.
The biggest problem that I'm going to run into is that so many of them overlap or are tied to the college football season and I certainly don't want to miss an A&M game.
We'll have to see how long it takes to get all of those checked off the list....I better get a second job too.
- Random Sports
- Go Watch the Masters - I'm about as casual of a golfer as the word casual will cover but there is an allure to Augusta that the sports fan in me really wants to experience
- World Cup final (in a European country) - I'm not a soccer fan, but I am open-minded to the sport. I'll watch a match if the Houston Dynamo are on TV and when the World Cup is going on I'll keep up and watch a match or two. The thing that fascinates me is the passion of the fans of the European teams and I'd like to see that in person.
- Run with the Bulls in Pamplona - Something I've always tossed around in my head - "I think I could do that". It's probably the most daring thing I would ever consider doing. I would be more scared of getting trampled by the people pushing and shoving than by the bulls themselves.
- Sit behind the bench of a Bob Knight coached game - I think Coach Knight is one of the most fascinating sports personalities in my lifetime. Regardless of what you think of him or how the media portrays him, he is an exceptional coach and I think it would be really interesting to see how he handles his players and the game - I suppose that since he retired, this one is going to go unfulfilled
- Baseball
- World Series game at Wrigley - this would just be incredible, but we've got to get there first....then I need to figure out how many years I'd be willing to pay back the loan I'd need for a ticket. I would miss any late-October/early-November A&M game for this.
- A MLB no-hitter - I've been to hundreds of baseball games and I've never seen one
- Fenway with my dad and brother - I've been to Fenway once on a roadtrip in college but I'd like to go back with my dad and brother
- Ags in Omaha - We just need to get there and I'm all over it
- Ags at Alex Box Stadium (LSU) - missed out my chance in '04 because I couldn't get out of a weekend of work when I was interning at Minute Maid Park
- Football
- Ags in Rose Bowl - "The Granddaddy of Them All"
- Ags in National Championship - Ideal for it to be at Rose bowl - 2 birds with 1 stone. I actually have a bank account that I've been putting money into bit-by-bit to save up for this one - and if we keep going like we're going I might be able to take the entire Class of '04 by the time we get there
- Packers game at Lambeau Field in the snow - I've seen Lambeau but it was in May (and still chilly) and we were standing outside but it's one of those historical relics - like Fenway or Wrigley - that even casual NFL fans need to see a game at
- A game at Neyland Stadium (U.Tennessee) - 102,307 people, the checkered end zones and the beautiful Smokey Mountains
- A game at Folsum Field (U.Colorado) - November 17th, 2009 - Our flight is already booked and tickets go on sale in August. I've always wanted to see a game at Folsum Field (the view of the Flatirons peeking over the top of the stadium is beautiful) and it seems the only way to get Jennifer to an Aggie game with me is to take her to Colorado (not even a trip to Miami worked)....on the other hand, the only way for Jennifer to get me to Colorado is for an Aggie game - so it's a pretty fair trade-off
- Ags playing at Oklahoma - I need to get up to Gaylord Memorial Stadium and since we're in the Big 12 South with OU it gives us a lot of opportunities. I'm attempting to work out the details to get up there this season but it comes a week after we're flying up to Colorado and I don't know if I can pull off back-to-back long weekend trips....we'll have to see what time the game is scheduled for. If we don't make it up this year there are plenty of chances down the road - (upcoming opportunities: 11/14/09, 9/5/11, 9/9/13, 11/7/15)
- Ags playing at Ole Miss - Dying to see a game in Oxford and check out The Grove. I just can't justify going to see Ole Miss without the Ags being in town - this one is going to take some time
- Ags playing at Georgia - See above - want to see a game "Between the Hedges" in Athens but it would probably need to involve an Aggie roadtrip
- Ags playing at Notre Dame - My lone regret from college. My freshman year we played in South Bend and my best friend's fish camp counselor invited us to tag along as he roadtriped up for the game....but it was the first weekend of school and I decided I'd rather go home to watch it with my folks on TV. I'm a dumbass. Lesson learned: don't pass up roadtrips
- Notre Dame at Michigan - It is a great rivalry up in one of the great stadiums, The Big House - (upcoming opportunities: 9/12/09, 9/10/11, 9/7/13)
- Michigan at Ohio State - A legendary rivalry (and I want to see them "Dot the i"). I've seen The Horseshoe, like Lambeau Field - from outside the stadium gates in May, but I want to see a game there. This is going to be a tough one simply because it falls the Saturday after Thanksgiving and travel is horrific, particularly to cold weather states, and it has to be planned around the Lone Star Showdown - (upcoming opportunities: 11/27/10, 11/24/12)
- An SEC night game at LSU - This kind of goes back to the European soccer fascination....these folks are crazy and they also love their football. Stick a conference opponent in the mix and top it off with a full day of crazy backwoods drinking and you have what is considered one of the most electric atmospheres in college football.
